Research request: Is AI becoming part of how women managed PCOS/PMOS?

The below blog post has been written by the research team, and details of how to participate in the research can be found at the bottom of this post. Verity have sighted the ethics approval granted for the recruitment of this study. Please note that the condition previously known as PCOS is now referred to as PMOS; some researchers and clinicians may still use the term PCOS during this transition period.

Introduction

After a PCOS diagnosis, many women continue searching for clear and reliable information about their health. For some, digital tools such as AI may now be part of that journey. This University of Leeds study is inviting women aged 18+ in the UK with a formal PCOS diagnosis to share their experiences and help improve understanding of how information and support are accessed.

About the study

This study explores whether tools such as AI chatbots and other digital platforms are being used to seek PCOS-related information, what influences women’s decisions to use or avoid them, and whether this reflects gaps in available support.

By listening to women’s experiences, the research aims to contribute to wider conversations about digital health and how information and support for PCOS can be better shaped in the future.

The study has been reviewed and approved by the University of Leeds Faculty of Biological Sciences Research Ethics Committee. Participation is entirely voluntary and anonymous.

What’s Involved?

• Complete a short anonymous online survey
• The survey takes around 10–15 minutes
• Answer questions about how you find information and support for PCOS
• Share whether you use AI tools (such as chatbots) and your experiences of using or not using them
• The survey is fully online and can be completed at a time that suits you

Who Can Take Part?

Women aged 18 or over
• Living in the UK
• Have received a formal diagnosis of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

You do not need to have used AI tools to take part. We are keen to hear from both women who use them and those who do not.

Why Take Part?

By taking part, you’ll be helping researchers build a clearer picture of how women with PCOS access information and support in everyday life. Your experiences can help highlight what feels helpful and where there may still be unmet information needs. Although there is no financial incentive, your contribution could help shape future discussions around digital health and women’s health support.

How to Get Involved

If you would like to take part, you can complete the anonymous online survey using the link below. It takes around 10–15 minutes and can be completed at a time that suits you.
