A new report from the NHS Confederation, “Women’s Health Economics: investing in the 51%” has made some eye-opening findings. Things that those of us navigating the healthcare system with a lifelong, complex health condition feel deeply, that is now backed by sound data.
Findings include:
• for every £1 invested in OBGYN care, there is a ROI of £11
• this would equate to an extra £319 million into the economy if just £1 extra was spent per woman in the UK
• areas with higher populations of Black and Brown women have worse access to health services
• absenteeism due to gynaecological factors is estimated to be £11 billion per year
• unemployment due to menopause symptoms (affecting 60,000) estimated to cost £1.5 billion per year
Verity was proud to not only be a contributor in this report to ensure PCOS is included and considered, but we were also honoured to attend the launch at the House of Lords last night. The report led by Bridget Gorham, Create Health foundation and the London School of Economics makes key recommendations to Government agencies that women’s health is not only a moral issue but an economic issue.
The Women’s Health Ambassador and Minister for Health and Equalities both spoke on how funding is needed for the remaining eight years of the Women’s Health Strategy.
Verity has some exciting developments we will be announcing in this space very soon. But in the interim, we would ask that you email your MP, share the link to this report with them and ask what they personally are going to do to help improve the Health and lives of the 51% – and ultimately by doing so, boosting the economy.
